WEIGHT PLATES

Weight plates are a crucial part of any weightlifting or strength training routine. They come in a variety of sizes and weights to accommodate different needs.

Simply put, weight plates are metal discs that you can use to add weight to a barbell or exercise machine. They add resistance to your exercises, making them more challenging and helping you to build muscle mass and strength. With different heaviness options, weight plates also allow you to progressively overload your muscles which is the key to muscle growth

How to Choose the Right Weight Plates?

When looking to buy weight plates, it’s crucial to evaluate the heaviness of the plate. Different weights will be better suited for different exercises. You must choose one that aligns with your fitness level and is compatible with your workout bench or rack. If you’re new to weightlifting, start with lighter weights and work your way up. Heavier weights can be more dangerous if you’re not used to them.

Another thing you need to consider when purchasing weight plates is the type of weight plate you want. The type of training you do will determine the type of weight plates you should purchase. Bumper plates are traditionally the same diameter and made of thick rubber or urethane which allows them to be dropped. They will also absorb vibration which will prolong the lifespan of your bar as well as help to protect floors. Iron plates are commonly used for powerlifting and cannot be dropped. Although Iron plates are a more economical option, they don’t provide any protection to your bar or floor as these weight plates don’t absorb vibration.

Benefits of Weight Plates

Weight plates help you build muscle. When you lift weights, the resistance challenges your muscles and makes them grow. With time and regular use, weight plates can help you achieve the muscular physique you desire.

Weight plates improve your strength. As you add more weight to your lifts, your muscles will gradually strengthen. This improved strength can translate into better performance in other activities, like sports or everyday tasks.

Weight plates are versatile. Unlike other pieces of weightlifting equipment, weight plates can be used with many different exercises to target different muscles. This versatility makes them a great option for people who want to create a well-rounded workout routine.

Weight plates are an effective way to add resistance training to your workout routine. Using weight plates can contribute to weight loss, strength gain, and increases in muscle mass.

Your weights should be heavy enough to challenge your strength. If you can easily execute a movement with minimal effort, you would certainly look to add more weight. Working with a certified trainer will help you map your goals and pick your weight and rep scheme to achieve them.

Yes, you can bench by adding weight plates to your barbell. It’s recommended to always have a spotter or use a rack for added safety.

Yes, you can squat by adding weight plates to your barbell. Alternatively, you can also add resistance to your squats with weight plates by simply holding a weighted plate which will increase your body weight.

Typically, cast iron plates tend to be the least expensive. Despite the low cost, they are not recommended for all training styles.

There are several varieties of weight plates. They vary in size, shape, and material. Before purchasing a set of weight plates, we recommend that you consult one of Tonic Performance’s Expert Consultants to determine which would be most suitable for the type of training you will be doing.
